Protein

Protein: does your hair love it or hate it?

Protein helps balance the moisture in your hair, keeping it healthy; as curlies, we all know the struggle with the fine line of balanced curls. The struggle is real!

However, as someone with hair that doesn't tolerate it well, I found a product that mimics all the benefits of protein without sending my curls into total freak-out and I want to share it with you!

POSSIBLE SIGNS HAIR ISN'T A FAN OF PROTEIN

To me, my hair feels ‘woolly’. It’s not dry like when you lack moisture; it’s a wirey/straw-like texture. I can feel my hair expanding, and not in a good way. If you're also experiencing knotty hair, don’t instantly blame the product or your heavy hand while applying; check the ingredients.

POSSIBLE SIGNS IT NEEDS SOME STRUCTURE FROM PROTEIN

If you find that after washing and styling your curls, you struggle to keep them, and the overall texture is mushy and soft, then you likely need protein or a protein alternative. My hair will also feel soft and won't stay in a pineapple as my hair seems so much thinner that volume will be lacking.

My Holy Grail Alternative: Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion

This flaxseed gel improves my hair texture, reduces frizz & provides structure. Protein wants to rebuild and fill out the hair cuticle, so while I find protein-heavy products too strong for my coarse hair, this does the job perfectly! 🙌
