THE ULTIMATE TRANSITION-SEASON ROUTINE
Autumn is (nearly) here, crisp mornings, cosy jumpers… and for many of us with curls, a whole new season of frizz. If your hair feels different the second the weather changes, you’re not imagining it.
The transition from summer to fall is a make-or-break moment for curls and waves, but with the right tweaks, you can protect your strands, boost definition, and keep frizz in check all season long.
WHY AUTUMN = FRIZZ SEASON
Humidity drops, indoor heating starts - Summer humidity might have given you some halo frizz, but Autumn brings dry indoor air and cooler winds. Your curls lose moisture faster, leaving them puffy, rough, or undefined.
Your Summer routine stops working - Those light sprays and gels that worked in July? They can’t compete with autumn dryness. Hair that isn’t properly sealed will frizz out faster.
Seasonal shedding & product buildup - Sun, saltwater, and chlorine from summer can leave your strands thirsty. Any leftover buildup will block moisture from absorbing, making frizz worse.
HOW TO TRANSITION YOUR ROUTINE FROM SUMMER TO FALL
The key to frizz-proofing your curls this season is hydration and protection. Here’s how to prep your strands for the seasonal shift:
1. Start With a Reset - Clarify gently to remove summer buildup and follow with a deep moisture mask to rehydrate and soften your strands.
2. Upgrade Your Leave-In & Creams - Switch to creamier leave-ins or add a little more to keep curls juicy. Add a curl cream to reduce frizz and help curls clump together.
📌Curly Tip: Wavies - use smaller amounts and focus on mid-lengths to ends to avoid weighing your hair down.
3. Introduce Layering for Protection - The LCO method (Leave-in -Cream -Oil) or a simple cream and gel combo can lock in hydration.
·Start with a water-based product for moisture.
·Seal with oils to create a protective barrier against dry air.
4. Mask & Massage Weekly - Fall is the season of extra love for your curls.
·Deep condition once a week (or as needed) to keep frizz at bay.
·Add a scalp massage with lightweight oil to stimulate circulation and combat seasonal shedding
CREATE A COZY CURL RITUAL
Beyond the products, fall is the perfect time to slow down and make your hair care feel like self-care. Add in a hot mug of tea, a warm heat cap, and a face mask!
Frizz-proofing isn’t just functional; it can become a ritual that helps your curls thrive through this seasonal shift!
