We used to be scared of crunchy curls; the crispy noodle look was not it! However, we’ve come a long way since then and now understand just how important creating a strong cast is.

Creating a curl cast is essential because it acts like a protective shell around each curl while your hair dries. It prevents frizz and helps define your curls by locking in their shape.

I know some people struggle with creating this cast, which can be frustrating. So, here are the best tips I can give to help you create a great cast and achieve the best definition possible without crunchy curls!

📌Ensure your hair is wet and fully saturated but not soaking. If it is too wet, it will not absorb the product properly and will be weighed down; if it is too damp, it will have more frizz than definition. There is definitely a sweet spot!

📌Go easy on leave-ins and creams—again, too much moisture will stop absorption and weigh your hair down. If you find yourself too heavy-handed, try adding a conditioner like Too Shea to a spritz bottle.

📌If you like to plop or curl train with a microfibre towel, do this before applying your gel or final styler so the towel or turban doesn’t absorb the product that is going to create the cast

📌Use a lightweight styler like Spiralicious gel (gel is generally best)  to finish off the styling process. This will help lock in moisture and lock in everything you’ve laid down before
