Cream v Gel

by Chief Educator Claire

The perfect duo 🧡

Before starting my curly journey, I was a one-and-done kind of girl when it came to styling, and the thought of using cream on my hair didn't seem right!

How wrong can one be?! 🤦‍♀️

There are many different styling products, but for most, cream and gel are essential for the end styling result and hair health.

WHAT DOES A CREAM DO?

A curl cream's purpose is to condition and moisturize from the inside out while helping to lock in hydration (H2O). A good curl cream will also enhance the natural pattern of the hair by encouraging curl formation and clumping.

WHAT DOES A GEL DO?

A gel's main job is to hold your curl or wave clumps together whilst protecting the hair shaft from external factors. Another vital role of a gel is sealing in all the moisture and hydration laid down before and controlling frizz. Once dry, a transparent film forms around the hair shaft, aka the cast or the hold.

DO WE NEED BOTH? YES!

In my opinion, all textured hair benefits from applying both a cream and gel. Wavy's may opt for a lighter leave-in cream, while tighter coils may need a thicker cream, either way, laying down moisture & locking in hydration will only benefit the hair and end styling result. And gel will extend wash day results while offering protection.
